GMDSS Sailing Area
Regulations for Marine Electronic Equipment & Systems
In terms of marine electronic equipment carriage requirements, various IMO, Flag and Class regulations apply.
IMO Regulations
IMO conventions and subsequent regulations generally focus on maritime safety (SOLAS), security (ISPS) and environment (MARPOL).
IMO equipment carriage requirements for Navigation and Communication Systems on board of vessels are based upon criteria such as:
GMDSS sailing area (e.g. A1/A2/A3 etc.)
Gross Tonnage (GT) of the vessel (e.g. 100/150/300GT etc.)
Type of vessel (e.g.bulk carrier, general cargo ship, high speed craft, mobile offshore drilling unit, oil tanker, passenger ship etc.)
By clicking on the above categories and sub-categories equipment can be selected available from Lambda Marine specifically linked to these criteria.
