OCTOPUS-Online - Introduction
OCTOPUS-Online is a secure web-portal where information received from vessels equipped with OCTOPUS-Onboard is stored, displayed and made downloadable for Internet users.
OCTOPUS-Onboard, made by Amarcon, is designed to assist navigators with safe sea-keeping of vessels of any type, any size and in all sea and weather conditions. Since its introduction in 2003 it has proven its value as an operational support tool for container vessels, bulk-carriers, VLCC's, LNG-carriers, RoRo vessels, ferries, Heavy Lift vessels, dredgers, Offshore Construction and Support Vessels, cruise ships, navy vessels and others. OCTOPUS-Online - What is it?
OCTOPUS-Online, part of the OCTOPUS suite of solutions, is a web portal which provides detailed information on the ship, the measured and forecasted vessel responses, the route plan, ETA and fuel-consumption.
OCTOPUS-Online - What does it do?Daily reports from the vessel are sent to a central database server, which is accessible from the internet.
Users have to login to gain access to their own part of the protected website. The integration of Google Maps provides an accurate viewing of routes and ship positions.The data is downloadable for further evaluation in
the office. It can be used for improving safety of life at sea or to tune motion calculation (specifically roll motion), fatigue analysis or for other purposes.
Depending on actual configuration and interfacing, OCTOPUS-Online can display at the ship owners office data of all on-board weather, wave and motion sensors of the vessel.
OCTOPUS-Online - How does it help?Commonly the Officer On watch (OOW) fills out Noon Position Reports by hand and forwards them by email or fax to the office.
OCTOPUS-Online will send automatically the Noon Position Report generated by the OOW using the OCTOPUS-Onboard PC. The report includes the OCTOPUS-Onboard system status, voyage information, measurement data and forecasts.
This information is thereafter available on a secure web portal page within one hour.
