The BNWAS monitors the presence and activity of the Officer of the Watch (OOW) and detects any absence on the bridge that could lead to shipping accidents due to unavailability or incapacity of the OOW in performing his duties. BNWAS is an IMO mandatory requirement to be phased in as of July 2011 for vessels of 150GT and above.
