ALPHA BNWAS - Bridge Navigational Watch Alarm System
A Cost Effective, Easy To Install, Easy to Operate BNWAS
Alpha BNWAS is a flexible BNWAS suitable for all types and sizes of vessels. The system is compact in size, therefore easy to install, user-friendly, therefore easy to operate. It is fully IMO MSC.128(75) compliant and Lloyds Register and Bureau Veritas approved. BNWAS is an IMO mandatory system and is phased in for all SOLAS vessels, e.g. all passenger vessel irrespective of size and all cargo vessels of 150GT and above, as of July 1st, 2011.
BNWAS - What is it?
The BNWAS monitors the presence, awareness and activity of the Officer of the Watch (OOW) on the bridge and detects his absence and/or inability on the bridge that could lead to shipping accidents due to unavailability or incapacity of the OOW in performing his duties. The system features a series of indications and alarms to alert first the OOW and, if no response is detected, the ships Master or another qualified OOW. The Alpha BNWAS also features an emergency calling facility, to obtain immediate assistance if required. The BNWAS is operational whenever the ship's Heading System (Autopilot) or Track Control System is engaged, unless inhibited by the Master.
Alpha BNWAS - How does it work?
The Alpha BNWAS consist in its most basic version on small vessels of a Main Alarm & Control Unit fitted on the bridge, with a Public Alarm Unit fitted to the deck where cabins of OOW's are located. If the Main Unit is in the ON or AUTO mode, the watch timer is activated, which is user programmable to a watch time of 3 to 12 minutes. The unit features an internal alarm buzzer and a visual LED alarm. If the selected watch time has expired, a reset LED will start flashing. If not reset within 15 seconds through the internal, or optional remote reset unit(s), the internal first stage alarm buzzer or the optional external bridge alarm siren will sound. If again not reset within 15 seconds, a second stage alarm will be generated through optional remote Cabin Alarm Units fitted at the cabins of the backup OOW(s) and/or Master. Should the BNWAS still not be reset within 90 seconds (or up to 180 seconds on large vessels) a third stage alarm will sound through the Public Alarm Unit(s) fitted on all relevant decks frequented by OOW(S), covering corridors and public spaces such as recreation rooms, mess-rooms, lounges etc.
Tone/modulation of the alarm can be pre-configured during commissioning of the system. Optional Remote Reset Units should be fitted to conning positions, navigation workstation(s) and monitoring workstation(s), as well as any bridge wings, provided they give a clear look out. Optional Indoor or Outdoor Remote Alarm Units can be located in the backup OOW(s) and/or Master's cabins, through an optional Officer Selector Switch. The switch enables the selection of up to 6 OOW's, but additional switches can be fitted on larger vessels.
The medium sized vessel system consists of:
- 1 x ALPHA BNWAS Main Alarm & Control Unit
- 1 x Remote Indoor Reset Unit
- 1 x Officer Selector Switch
- 2 x Remote Outdoor Reset Unit
- 3 x Cabin Alarm Unit
- 3 x Public Alarm Unit
- Motion Sensor Units are optional
